Easter Bunny Art
We designed our own Easter bunnies using different patterns and lines. We then cut them out stuck them onto colour paper with some super groovy glasses.
For writing we read the story "The Easter Egg Farm" by Mary Jane Auch. In the story Pauline the hen, lays unusual eggs in the image of whatever she was looking at while concentrating. We had a look around our classroom and homes and deigned our own Easter eggs, just like Pauline.

Growth Mindset vs Fixed Mindset
In our class some of us do not like making mistakes, so Mrs Mackenzie let us watch a movie about a girl who never made mistakes. Mrs Mackenzie then gave us 8 words that the main character did not use. We then wrote about what the words meant to use and how it is important to use each and everyone in our learning.
We then looked at a "growth" mindset and a "fixed" mindset. For writing we worked with a partner to write a statement for each mindset. Can you guess which mindset we have written about?
My Place
Our first inquiry this year was "My Place". We have looked at how we are unique, groups we belong to and how belonging to a community/group we have rights and responsibilities.
Class Treaty
Have a look at our class treaty! As a class we decided on the guidelines that we think we needed to make our class a strong team and a caring community.
What SMART's are you?
We have been looking at how we best think and learn. We learnt that we all learn differently and have "special smarts".
Come in to our class to see our key and find out which smarts our brains use the most.

Belonging Bugs
As part of inquiry this term we have been writing about groups that we belong to. We discovered that we all belong to Pohutukawa, but we also belong to lots of other different groups. Some of us belong to the same groups and some of us belong to different groups. We published some of these groups on Belonging Bugs.
We have had fun comparing our bugs and finding out about each other.

We are Unique
Together we read the story "Elmer" by David McKee. We created our own papier mache Elmers, everyone being unique and different. Once we had finished with our Elmer we took a photo and using the app "Chatterpix" we made our Elmers come alive. We made our Elmers explain why we are unique, special and one of a kind.
Self Portraits
Have a look at our self portraits, inspired by illustrator Nate Williams.
First we drew simple profiles or our heads and shoulders. We added 4-6 lines to split up our face, in these gaps we wrote words and adjectives that represent us.
